Marketing - Will you be good or bad?
I just read an article about marketing by Gary Simpson entitled, Rich Jerk, Poor Jerk. It talks about how certain marketers use almost abusive marketing tactics in an effort to sell their product. You’ve probably seen them, they are the ones that act as though they are better than you and the obvious fact that they are rich and you are not. Of course it’s all to grab attention, almost shock if you will. To get your attention and in an odd way, get you to buy their stuff. Sure not my way to trying to promote my products.
More and more lately I’ve been seeing so many people breaking the rules. I am talking about marketing rules or guidelines that have been around for ages. They have been around because they work, not in the short term, but long term.
People that build lists know and will tell you over and over that you’ve got to treat your subscribers right and keep giving them valuable or usable information. Yet, lately I see so many give no information, just pounding their lists about their newest big launch. I just took myself off two such lists because thats all I received, was buy, buy, buy. It was’nt even just one e-mail a day but some times several.
I’ve been bugged lately by one marketer to join this exclusive training club. Told how good it was, how there were only so many seats available, very limited, how it was worth this staggering amount. After getting so many e-mails I began to wonder…. if it was that good, why do you need to hound ME so much to join?
I don’t doubt there are plenty of big ticket products out there that are probably worth the money. But it seems if you have one good launch, and a best selling book, you’ve already proven yourself as an expert? Not to mention, we all know the above can be obtained just with the right joint ventures.
Some would say, well they know how to build lists, when they burn up one, they will just build another, or the fact that they are always adding more subscribers each day. I could agree, but does’nt word get around after while?
One of the biggest reason I started this site was the fact that I was tried of the crap and sure others are also.
There’s nothing wrong will selling to your list or selling to your customers. Nothing wrong with trying your best to make the sale. But I don’t see how some tactics are going to work for long. I don’t know about you, but I am in the is for the long haul. I want a long term income, not a quick burst.
Did I ramble? Oh well, too bad, it’s my site..:)
