Are you going to let them go Empty-Handed?
Previously Entitled: “Yet another over looked profit center”
I’m going through one of my e-mail Inboxes today. I probably put it off because it’s gotta so big and out of control, starting to look like one of my Kids bedroom if we don’t stay on top of them.
I was originally looking for a couple e-mails, but quickly realized I was on way to many mailing lists! Sounds funny coming from a marketer, but there are some lists that are really just time suckers and inbox multipliers.
I’m not saying they are all junk and not worth the internet postage, I am saying they are not adding enough value to my business. i don’t mind getting offers from those that are teaching something, growing my business or helping me expand into other income streams. It’s the very least I could do for them, is to check out what they are selling from time to time, and some times I do make a purchase.
Getting back to the point… It got me to thinking. As I unsubscribed from many lists, I noticed a common thread, I was unsubscribed at that was it. Well, these was one marketer who shot up a sales letter after I unsubbed from the list.
As far as trying to sell me something as I am leaving, well, just my two pennies, but I don’t think it’s the right choice. Granted he or she might make a few sales, but does it provide any long term strategy? i don’t think so. After all I was leaving the list because I personally didn’t see any value, my choice. And if the marketer was a “sell-you-all-the-time” type, I wouldn’t buy and it would only re-enforce my opinion that the person was a affiliate (insert yow own expletive here).
What about this…
After the subscriber is removed, why not be gracious about it and, here’s the big one… give them something free? What about a free report related to the niche of the list they were on? A totally no-strings-attached gift.
Why?
Several reasons. A nice last chance to get your name in front of them without trying to sell them. Maybe a chance to redeem yourself? How many do you think will download your free gift when they don’t have to do anything?
Naturally your freebie needs to be useful content, but who’s to say you couldn’t add some affiliate links or links to your own products?
You never know, maybe they were just getting to much mail and yours was one that happened to get the axe?
Think about it, they were leaving your “realm” anyways, why not try to getting your foot in the door one last time. Show they you can be of value.
After all it’s quite a harmless marketing attempt.
Worst they could do was not take up you on the offer.
DISCLAIMER: I shouldn’t have to say it, but don’t make them opt-in to get it. Remember they are probably in the “I get to much e-mail” mode anyways.
