Bookmark Traffic - Four Quick Tips
If your not sure what I mean when I use the term, Bookmark traffic, it simple means, surfers who have bookmarked or saved your sites address, so they can easily find their way back to your website. Just like marking a page your reading in a paperback.
It stands to reason, if people have gone to the trouble of bookmarking your site, it’s most likely you got their attention and they are interested in what you have to say.
As the saying goes, it’s much less work to keep a customer than it is to find new ones.
We also know not every person will buy the first time they see your offer(s).
So on with the tips….
- Make the effort. For the longest time, I never gave it much thought. I just left my feed links and chicklets, such as add to Google, where they were by default. This was often way down the at the bottom of a side column. I began to think, I want repeat visitors and to do that I need to put it where they can’t miss it. You want to come to them, not them come to you, as most times they won’t.
- Remind them To bookmark. I know this seems like common sense, that if a surfers likes your blog he or she would bookmark it on their own. You’d be surprized how it can make a difference when you remind them. It’s sure not going to hurt.
- Make it easy. A while back I finally made my own personalized google page. Don’t know why I had’nt done it before. If you have a personalized page, you’ll know that, for most places like yahoo and Google, users can add to that page, such as adding a blog feed. The problem is it takes some work. First they need to find your feed link, then go to their personalized page and add it. While this does’nt seem like a big hassle, it’s too many extra steps in the process, extra steps that could mean you’ve lost them. It’s too much trouble, is what many might think. Make it easy by putting those cute little “add to yahoo” or “+ myMsn” chicklets in plain view so it’s a click or two and you have a new regular reader.
- Social Tagging and Social Bookmarking. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, your sure to have heard of sites such as Digg or Delicious. These websites live on surfers sharing webpages, so why not make it easy for your visitors to share your site with other users of these social networks? There is a great plug-in for Wordpress called Sociable that I use on this blog. Every post created will automatically have the links for surfers to easily share the post.
These are just a few tips, but the most important and a good place to start.
