Previously Entitled: “Yet another over looked profit center”

I’m going through one of my e-mail Inboxes today. I probably put it off because it’s gotta so big and out of control, starting to look like one of my Kids bedroom if we don’t stay on top of them.

I was originally looking for a couple e-mails, but quickly realized I was on way to many mailing lists! Sounds funny coming from a marketer, but there are some lists that are really just time suckers and inbox multipliers.

I’m not saying they are all junk and not worth the internet postage, I am saying they are not adding enough value to my business. i don’t mind getting offers from those that are teaching something, growing my business or helping me expand into other income streams. It’s the very least I could do for them, is to check out what they are selling from time to time, and some times I do make a purchase.

Facebook

I’ve had a Facebook profile for s a while, I’ve talked about it before, was just to say I had one really. to be in the the in-crowd? Who knows.

I will admit I don’t send a ton of time surfing the site, but it saddens me to see what’s going on. From what I see so much of it seems to be all all-out advertising spam fest. So many of the walls I see on people profiles is one ad after another, they don’t even try to hide it.

I even deleted a “friend” today (think he added me originally) because I saw he was spamming walls with ads. Many would say I am doing it wrong, but I do not want a list of friends just to say have all these friends. I am not going to help contribute to the decline of a social network by being “friends” with some one who does.

It doesn’t help when others are letting it happen. Do few realize there is a delete link on each wall entry?

Does no one see a similarity coming here? Maybe a place called MySpace?

Then again, maybe I’m jumping the gun. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a, I told You So, moment in the near future. Not that I want it to, but it seems as though it’s already in the works.

As I go through my inbox today, once again thinking I am on too many lists, many that bring me no value.

Don’t get me wrong, you, I and them are all here to make money. Not dogging any one.

Today though I got to thinking, what happened to originality?

As I am going through the messages, once again for the umpteenth time I get one that Urgently tells me not to buy from so and so marketer.

“Important: Do NOT Buy Joe’s Big Marketing Package”

You know how many times I’ve seen that subject line used? How about you? From just about evern Tom, Dick and Harry, every one and their brother. Okay I think you get my point.

Thing is I know exactly what they message is all about, I know the drill.

In reality they do want me to buy Joe’s big Deal Thingy, but of course they want me to buy it from them and they are going to make it worth my while by piling on all kinds of bonuses I can only get from them! If I don’t buy the deal of the century from only them, I am going to miss out, Big-Time! (okay).

Now I realize they are using this tactic because it works, or it use to? I doesn’t work on me any more, maybe I am an odd duck. I doubt it, I’m sure I am not the only one that is tired of see it. I am not likely to open it and read it either.

All goes back to my question, what happened to originality? Seems marketers are using the same lines over and over, they are going to die sooner or later, they are going to lose their effectiveness at some point in time, if they haven’t already.

The question to you is, do you want to be the a part of the herd, using the same old tired headlines and watch your response rate drop like a lead balloon?

I talked about it not long ago and finally took action, stepped up to the plate and installed a new theme.

What do you think? Good? Bad?

I am terrible when it comes to looking for a new theme, I get a layout stuck in my head and find myself searching till I find it. Well, usually not exactly what I had i n mind, but real close.

Now Hopefully, i won’t see this one being used everywhere. I’d love to create my own, but I don’t have the time and I am not a CSS expert. I can do the little things, like changing colors, fonts and alignment, but when it comes to layout or the frame work, I am lost. I even bought a couple books that could probably teach me, but they are a low priority on my reading list, which seems ever growing and never-ending.

I happened across one of the Big Guru’s Blogs today, found my way from Facebook (maybe there’s something to that Facebook thing after all?). I made a comment on one of the posts, nothing out of the ordinary, nothing real exciting here yet.

I hit the main page, scanning the post titles as I scrolled down, nothing really catching my eye yet. I reach the bottom of the main page and click the “Previous Entries” link and reached the end of the line… All I received for my click was that nasty “Not Found” message in big bold type (almost as if they want you to look like an idiot with that kind of message).

Hey, things happen, our websites do not always work without a hitch, I can vouch for that.

Here’s the interesting part of the story…

I was going to be a nice guy and let him know, there was a slight hiccup with his blog, I’d love if some one let me know, thing is, I couldn’t tell him!

After searching the whole main page, there was NO way to contact the owner. I know what it’s like to get spammed, but there are plenty of secure contact options for blogs, even a link to a support desk would have worked just dandy.

The contact thing aside, If I didn’t know this guy from Adam, would I came back to his blog? There’s a chance I wouldn’t because it doesn’t even work right.

Course, he won’t hear it from me, because he’s not listening. Are you listening?

I can’t say every visitors to the his blog is a potential customer, but I’m sure there are some in mix.
